Lucky's Lady (Doucet) Review

Serena Sheridan is a psychologist who returns to her ancestral home in Louisiana for a vacation. When she returns she has to deal with her seventy-eight year old grandfather who has gone out to his fishing cabin and refuses to return. She has a calculating twin sister that she has never gotten along with. And a politician brother-in-law who is very wishy-washy.
Serena finds out that a chemical company wants to buy the family property for a plant that will endanger wildlife. Her sister wants the property sold, of course, so she can have the money to advance her husband's political career.
The hunk of the story, Lucky, lives in the bayou and is a type of Robin Hood crusader. He keeps out the poachers and helps the people who live in the bayou. Lucky is put to the test by his inner demons when he finds himself falling in love with Serena.
Hoag fans who have read more recent books of hers, will find this more of a romance novel then Ashes to Ashes, Guilty as Sin and Night Sins. However, it is a great book with a good mystery, if a little more romantic then we've gotten accustomed to with Ms. Hoag.

Author Loucinda McGary often made up her own endings to books as a child if she didn't like them. In high school she penned stories about her friends, and in college she published over a dozen poems in magazines. After life got in the way of her writing aspirations, she recently chose to leave her management career to pursue her one true love. Other titles include: The Wild Sight and The Treasures of Venice. When not traveling, she resides in California with her family.

Ever since they were children and found themselves experimented on when others learned of their gift, the telepathic link with her brother has always remained their secret. But now Amber finds herself connecting minds with not only Parker, but Kevin as well. When a ruthless band of smugglers, the mystery of a selkie prince, and the wild Irish sea bring these two lost souls together, not only is there a union of mind and body, but a love that cannot be denied.
I adore Irish stories, and this was no exception. A fascinating blend of American and Irish culture come together in this tale to bring the reader right there on the rocky shores, feeling the spray on your face and a lilt to your heart. The secondary characters, Parker, Meriol, Connor, Ronan, and Mrs. Fitzpatrick, really added to this book. This is also a book which readers can take a lot from. A bit of adventure, a little fantasy, a touch of humor, and a lot of love make for a delightful read. This is an author who understands her setting and is able to illustrate it beautifully with eloquence. I will never think of seals the same way again, nor will I ever overlook the wonderful legends of Ireland. Though there is the mystery element to this book, I found the telepathy angle and love story more rewarding. Highly recommended, and I certainly look forward to more from this author.

Kathleen Mix's fifth romantic suspense, RIVER OF FEAR, plays out, like her previous four, before a backdrop of sailboats and the sea. Fear wastes no time in presenting itself: On page one, in the teeth of a thunderstorm, Annie Brenton glimpses a prowler outside her home--the unknown stalker who has been harassing her is becoming bolder. Annie's farm lies along a river and as the lightning flashes, she also sees a sailboat drop anchor in her cove to ride out the storm. Enter the romance: Luke Erickson. While Annie struggles to get her small-town police chief to take her reports of a stalker seriously, Luke and his two youngsters are trying just as hard to avoid the authorities. Meanwhile, the stalker ratchets up the pressure with each passing day, progressing from sending menacing phone calls and dead flowers to firing guns through her window and bypassing the security system to set an indoor fire while she sleeps. As with any good suspense novel, there are several likely suspects (and I guessed wrong), as well a nagging mystery--why is the stalker terrorizing Annie?
Kathleen Mix is an avid sailor and licensed charter boat captain who lives on her boat for much of each year, so those who love sailing will appreciate the authenticity she brings to every chapter. More to the point, she is a good writer, and her books hold the reader's interest right to the last page.
