The Affair at Cloud Bay Review

Wow. Wait until you've got a whole day to devote to this book before getting it, because you might neglect your babies and pets in order to finish reading it. It has a sort of John Steinbeck epic feel to it--even the most hateful character is realistic, never cartoonish, and I needed to know what would happen to him, and how far his madness would take him. The scenes are so well described, I turned the heat up as I read about the cold Alaskan winters. Full of detail, from the small town in which it all starts, to the Pacific in WWII, to an Alaskan fish cannery, it feels like you're there. But the main focus is always on the people, the characters, and there wasn't a dull moment. And just when you think it's over, it's not. Great ending, great beginning, great middle--I highly recommend it. I've read a lot of novels these past few months, by well-known authors, but this was the best.
