The Sitka Incident Review
Walt Larson sat across from me many days at our writers' critique group as we worked perfecting each other's manuscripts. One of them became this book, and it's powerful writing. He was a big man, with steel gray hair and hands like hams. He'd lived an interesting life - a merchant seaman, a fisherman in the wild and dangerous waters of the Pacific Northwest, a wanderer, a tug captain.Walt was a Norwegian/Tlingit from Alaska. He was the tug pilot who towed the Exxon Valdez out of the Prince Edward Sound.
He, like his characters (raw, rough hewn Native Americans, and alcoholics) had known some really tragic times, and was proud of his sobriety. He freely shared that with us, with an offer to help anyone in need through AA.
I just came across this listing today, approximately five years after his death. This is a book worth reading. You will be pleased.
Walt was always very generous with his time and a prolific writer. He gave me the courage to pursue my own book, "Waltz on the Wild Side - An Animal Lover's Journal", and to contribute to "Least Loved Beasts of the Really Wild West - A Tribute".
I miss him.
You will thank me for suggesting you read "The Sitka Incident" and Walt's other novels. They are slice of life and full of grit. Heroes step from their last pages.
