The Window at St. Catherine's Review
I've known Bill Cullerton (profiled in "Windows") for many years, but he was very reluctant to talk about "The War." I knew that he was a WWII flying ace, was shot down, escaped for a while until a German soldier put a bullet in Bill and left him for dead. And that was just the start of things to come.Miraculously Bill survived one ordeal after another. But basically that's all I knew about his War (and most of this I found out from others).
Until The Windows at St. Catherine's.
Recently and with lots of prodding, Bill decides to go into some details. If you start reading Windows, chances are that you won't put it down until it's finished. It's that riveting.
I think Bill's life and adventures should be considered for a full-length movie or, at the minimum, a TV special.
The author is John Dobbertin, a superb writer, who chronicles Bill's unending adventures seamlessly as, chapter by chapter, Bill's life unfolds. But Dobbertin is not just a superb writer; he contributes heavily to an artistic, momentous task, which results in the book's title and unusual cover illustration.
Get the book. Read it. And be glad there are people like Cullerton and Dobbertin in this world. It's a five-star book all the way.
