2007 Guidebook to Ohio Taxes (Cch State Guidebooks) Review
This is a superb volume for plumbing the Gordian densities of the Ohio taxing system, especially the distinctions between municipalities (like, what if you live in Shaker Heights but you work in Berea?). Ohio appears to be a state that relentlessly goes after every ounce of revenue it can possibly bleed from its unfortunate citizens, which somewhat explains the perpetually stale economy there. I was originally seeking information related to a circumstance which apparently occurs almost every winter near Cleveland: Lake Erie freezes over, some guy decides to attempt to walk to Canada, and is never seen again. Is the locale of his death considered to be the point where he left land? Or -- but how could this be? -- is it some point in the lake? It's an interesting tax problem, the specification of such a decedent's last exact locale for tax purposes.
